Six Tips for a Successful Detox

When preparing for a detox/cleans of the body, mind, and spirit, here are the top six things that I do to prepare.  Detoxing/Cleansing definitely affects the “whole” person!

  • ·         Make a grocery list of all of the items you will need.  For me, it’s important to have all items that I’ll need for the detox on hand; my veggies, fruits, seeds, water, etc.  It would be a great distraction to have to gather these things after I’ve started.

  • ·         Prepare to journal the experience. Have a journal book handy.  It always a good idea to record how you’re feeling prior to starting, during the process and after the detox ends.  This is a great way to measure your success based on the goals you set.

  • ·         Consult your doctor.  If there are any pre-existing medical conditions, discuss the detox/cleanse method with your physician first.  Detoxing can shock the body and have adverse effects on existing medical conditions.

  • ·         Set your intentions. Determine what’s important to you.  Identify the specific desired outcome.  Outline reasonable steps to reach the goal.

  • ·         Reduce toxins. Reduce or stop your intake of coffee, tea and soft drinks. Minimize or cease your intake of alcohol and cigarettes. Limit processed foods, especially those with preservatives and artificial colours and flavors. Minimize or cease your sugar intake. Minimize your red meat intake.
  •  Increase cleansing support. Increase your raw food intake. Try to eat at least 50% raw food each day, including vegetables, fuits, salads, sprouts, nuts and seeds.

Drink plenty of the best water available to you. Gradually increase your intake to 8-10 glasses of water per day.  Try to drink vegetable or wheatgrass juices every day.

Blessings,
Valerie
